Subscription Terms

Damocles Edge, Intelligence Solutions. Alberta, Canada. michael.dabels@damoclesedge.com. Last updated: November 1, 2026.

These terms apply to member subscriptions from Damocles Edge (“we”, “us”): the Sector Brief, the Policy Tracker & Calendar, and Permit Watch. By paying an invoice, you agree to them. Sections 6 to 10 and 13 also apply to anyone who reads our free samples.

1. What’s included

A weekly brief on Western Canada (B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and federal) policy and regulatory risk for your chosen sector (Energy, Agriculture or Construction), or for all three. Each issue is posted to a secure members’ area, with an archive of past issues for your sectors. Your archive includes every brief from your start date, plus the four weeks before. You can choose to get an email reminder when a new brief is posted, and switch it off any time in the members’ area.

  • One sector: one sector, one reader, $77/month or $770/year (CAD). Founding rate for early members: $49/month or $490/year.
  • All three sectors: all three sectors, one reader, $179/month or $1,790/year (CAD). Founding rate for early members: $120/month or $1,200/year.
  • Policy Tracker & Calendar: members-only access to both views (tracker and calendar), without a Sector Brief edition, one reader, $59/month (CAD).
  • Permit Watch: members-only access to Permit Watch, one reader, $89/month or $890/year (CAD).

You can hold any combination of these plans on one account (for example, One sector plus Permit Watch, or One sector plus the Policy Tracker & Calendar). Each plan is billed at its own price, and a founding rate applies only to the Sector Brief plan it was given for. Members who already have the former Permit Watch + Construction plan keep it at their current rate for as long as their subscription continues without a break; it is no longer offered to new members.

The Policy Tracker & Calendar is one product with two views, a tracker and a calendar. It is sold only as the separate Policy Tracker & Calendar plan, at its own price. It is not included with any Sector Brief or Permit Watch plan, and can be added to either. Members who already had it through a Sector Brief plan keep that access.

Permit Watch maps building permits, development permits, rezonings and major projects compiled from public municipal and provincial open data. It is not an official city record: records can be late, incomplete or changed by the issuing office, locations can be approximate, and company names are shown as published. Check with the issuing office before relying on a record. Saved alerts are a convenience and may be delayed or missed.

The Policy Tracker lists the stage, next formal step and dates for public bills, regulations, projects and fiscal events, taken from the source linked on each item. Stages and dates can change without notice; check the linked source before relying on an item.

If you subscribed at a founding rate, you keep that rate for as long as your subscription continues without a break.

2. Billing and renewal

We invoice you by email, monthly or annually, based on the plan you choose. Payment is due within 15 days by Interac e-Transfer (other methods on request). Your plan renews for the same period, and we send a new invoice before each renewal. We may pause members’ area access if an invoice is unpaid after the due date. Prices are in CAD.

3. Cancellation

You can cancel any time by emailing us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period, and you keep members’ area access until then.

4. Refunds

We do not refund partial monthly periods. For annual plans, if you cancel within 14 days of the start of the annual period, we refund the unused portion on a pro-rated basis.

5. Sharing

Each subscription is for one named reader with their own sign-in. Please don’t share your sign-in, or forward, republish, resell or otherwise redistribute the brief beyond that reader. Short internal quotes with credit to Damocles Edge are fine.

6. Not professional advice

The Sector Brief, the Policy Tracker & Calendar, Permit Watch, the free samples and anything else we publish are general information and analysis about public policy and regulation. They are not legal, tax, accounting, financial, investment, engineering or other professional advice, and they are not tailored to your business or circumstances. Nothing we publish is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security, commodity, credit or other asset. Where a brief lists things “worth considering”, those are general points to raise with your own advisors, not instructions. Please get advice from a qualified professional before acting on anything in a brief.

7. Your decisions are your own

You are responsible for your own business, legal, financial and investment decisions, and for checking anything in a brief that matters to them. Using our subscriptions does not create a lawyer–client, advisor–client, fiduciary or other professional relationship between you and us.

8. Accuracy and no warranty

We work from public sources and take care to be accurate. Information is believed accurate when published, but we can’t guarantee that a brief is complete, current or error-free, and policy can change quickly. Figures marked as estimates are our own arithmetic and may differ from official numbers. Briefs are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows:

  • we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, savings, data or business opportunity, arising from your use of, or reliance on, a brief or sample, even if we were told such loss was possible; and
  • our total liability for all claims relating to our subscriptions is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. If you have only used free samples, that amount is zero.

Nothing in these terms limits any right or liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. No reliance by others

Briefs are written for the subscriber who receives them. Anyone else who reads a brief, including through forwarding or sharing in breach of section 5, does so at their own risk, and we owe them no duty. If you share a brief beyond what these terms allow, or use it in breach of these terms, you are responsible for any resulting claims made against us by others, including our reasonable costs.

11. Privacy

We use your name and email only to give you access to the members’ area, to send the reminders you choose and to invoice you. We don’t sell or share them, except as required by law.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms or prices. We’ll email you at least 30 days before a change takes effect; changes apply from your next renewal. If you don’t agree, you can cancel before then.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Alberta. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
